After a review of the Nitrox course requirements it has been decided that the entry requirements for the Nitrox course will be reduced to
SAA member
Current medical / self certification
Open Water Diver (with no specified additional dives)
No age restriction
The previous requirements included a minimum qualification of Club Diver. This change is effective from January 1st 2007.
BSAC Nitrox Diver
With the inclusion of Nitrox training at a basic level within BSAC Ocean Ocean and Sport Diver courses from January 2007 more an more divers will be able to use nitrox on all dives to enhance diver safety.
Divers who hold qualifications prior to the 2007 diver training syllabus but not holding a Nitrox certification, will be able to receive this training by attendance on The Nitrox Diver Workshop.
BSAC Snorkelling Goes Younger!
The BSAC announces that the age for youngsters to take up snorkelling with the Governing Body for the sport has now been lowered from 8 years old to 6 years old.
BSAC National Diving Officer, Clare Peddie says; “I am delighted that we have been able to lower the age. At a time when the Government is keen to encourage young people to take up sport earlier and to get fitter, BSAC can demonstrate its support for this policy by welcoming boys and girls into the fascinating world of snorkelling from as early as the age of 6.”
BSAC launches AED Course
Automated External Defibrillation (AED) course.
To train divers and others involved in BSAC diving activities with little or no knowledge and experience of Automated External Defibrillators (AED), in their use during a diving emergency situation according to Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines, with particular attention to precautions required in the diving environment.
The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Course can be delivered within a BSAC Branch, Region or Centre.
